Vietnam offers some excellent landscapes for the dedicated trekker,
particularly around the highland areas of the country. In the north, there
is Fansipan, Vietnam’s highest mountain, which is a feasible four-day hike
or plenty of fascinating walks through minority villages in the valleys
around Sapa and Bac Ha. The scenery in the northern highlands is simply
stunning and exploring on foot is the best way to get close to the local
people. In the south, Dalat is the ideal base for some trekking in the
surrounding pine-clad hills. There are some splendid waterfalls, as well as
minority people with different languages and customs from those in the north.
