DAY 1: Huay Xai
We begin our journey at the Lao–Thai border of Huay Xai.
Crossing into Laos, we transfer to a local hotel and later
visit the local villages of Khmu and Lantaen.
DAY 2: Huay Xai to Muang Sing
After breakfast at the hotel, we take a speedboat up the
stream to Xiengkok, stopping to visit some local villages
along the way. We then continue by road to Muang Sing with
some stops to visit local villages.
DAY 3: Trekking around Muang Sing
After breakfast at the hotel, be take a trek to visit some
local villages, including Iko, Lu and Yao where we meet
many of the local minority people in the area Muang Sing is
famous for having as many as 38 different ethnic minorities
in the area.
DAY 4: On to Luang Namtha
After breakfast, we travel to Luang Namtha, pausing to visit
some minority villages along the road. We spend the
afternoon walking to visit Thaidam and Lantan villages. We
spend the night in a local hotel.
DAY 5: Luang Namtha to Muong Na Hmor
After breakfast at the hotel, we transfer from Luang Namtha
to Muong Na Hmor. We continue to Ban Ai (Thai Yang tribe)
from where we trek to Ban Khouang (Lu tribe) for an
overnight homestay with a local family.
DAY 6: Oudomxai
After breakfast, we return to Ban Ai on foot before
continuing by road to Oudomxai with several stops to visit
local villages.
DAY 7: Oudomxai to Ban Navai
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for Bountai by road.
Along the way, we visit some local villages, inhabited by
Hmong, Iko and Thai Lu. We enjoy a picnic lunch before
continuing on foot to Ban Navai for an overnight homestay
with a friendly Thai Lu family.
DAY 8: Ban Navi to Phongsali
After breakfast, we take a short walk to join the main road,
where we continue by car to Phongsali. Along the way, we
visit some local people's villages and enjoy lunch at a
local restaurant.
DAY 9: Phongsali to Muang Ngoy
After breakfast, we travel from Phongsali to Hatsa by road
and then by traditional boat along the Nam Ou river. After
enjoying a picnic lunch, we visit some local villages and
take in the beautiful landscape on both sides of the river.
DAY 10: Muang Ngoy to Luang Prabang
After breakfast, we take a traditional boat on the Nam Ou
river, and stop off to visit some local villages along both
sides of the river. We visit the incredible Pak Ou Caves,
home to hundreds, even thousands, of beautiful Buddha images.
We later continue to Ban Xanghai, a traditional Lao village
famous for producing local rice whisky. We then arrive in
Luang Prabang.
DAY 11: Luang Prabang
After breakfast at the hotel, we enjoy a city tour of
beautiful Luang Prabang, including all the famous sights
such as the Royal Palace Museum and Wat Xieng Thong. In the
afternoon, we make a trip to the Kuang Si Falls before
returning to Luang Prabang.
DAY 12: Luang Prabang to Xieng Xhuong
After breakfast, we spend some more time exploring the
charming old streets of Luang Prabang. After a local lunch,
we transfer to the airport for our flight to Phonsavanh.
After checking into a local hotel, we visit the mysterious
Plain of Jars.
DAY 13: Xieng Xhuong to Muangkham
After breakfast, we travel by road to Muangkham, visiting
some local villages along the way. We then explore Thampiou
historical cave where more than three hundred people died
during the Indochinese war. After lunch at a local
restaurant, we visit the local hot springs.
DAY 14: Muangkham to Vang Vieng
After breakfast and a visit to the local market, we continue
by road to Vang Vieng, stopping to visit some local minority
villages along the route. After lunch at a local restaurant,
we arrive in Vang Vieng late afternoon and check into our
hotel.
DAY 15: Vang Vieng to Vientiane
After breakfast at the hotel, we visit a local market and
some caves. We then travel by road from Vang Vieng to
Vientiane via Nam Ngum lake, where we enjoy lunch at a local
restaurant. Later we visit a traditional salt extraction
plant center Ban Keune. We arrive in Vientiane in late
afternoon and transfer to our hotel.
DAY 16: Vientiane
After breakfast at the hotel, we take a look at the capital
city of Vientiane, visiting most of the major sites,
including Wat Sisaket, Wat Prakeo, the golden spire of That
Luang, the victory monument of Patuxai and the famous
morning market. After a local lunch at a restaurant
overlooking the Mekong we later transfer to the airport for
onward flight or to the Friendship Bridge for travel to Thailand.
