Khamfan is 33, married with one son and is a native of Luang Prabang, so not surprisingly it’s his favourite spot in Laos, alongwith Luang Namtha and the Plain of Jars. He began as a tour guide in 1999 after working in the hotel industry, on a cruise ship and as a teacher. For sport, he loves badminton, boules and boxing.
 
Phonesy is another Luang Prabang native, married with two children and is 33 years old. His favourite location in Laos is his home city but he also has a soft spot for Wat Phu and the Four Thousand Islands in the far south. Football and rattan-ball are his sports of choice and before taking up tour guiding nine years ago, he taught English and worked for the Luang Say Cruise company.
 
Boualaphanh was born in Luang Prabang, is 33 and married with two children. He was an office manager before becoming a tour guide in 2000 and has worked with Hanuman for the last three years. He loves his country’s natural attractions such as Khon Phapheng waterfall as well as his home city and would like to visit England and France in the future. His favourite sports are snooker and football.
 
Amkha Gnouthasanty has been a tour guide for eight years and has worked with Hanuman for the last three years. He’ll be 47 in December, is married with three children and is a native of Luang Prabang. He has studied in Germany and has been a private tutor of German and English in the past. He’s a football fan, also likes swimming and loves Lao food especially làap (salad of minced meat with lime and garlic)and sticky rice. Cambodia is the country he’d most like to visit.
 
Bounlouane Vongpraseut is 48, has two children and was born in Paksan. Known as Marco, he was an English teacher and office manager before becoming a tour guide in 1992, working with Hanuman for the last three years. Football and cycling are his favourite sports, while New Zealand gets his vote for his country to visit. In Laos, he loves the Unesco World Heritage site of Luang Prabang, Plain of Jars and Khon Phapheng waterfall.
 
Bounthanong Sisombat is 26 years old, was born in Vang Vieng and studied at university before becoming a tour guide, working with Hanuman since 2005. He’d love to visit China, enjoys cycling and swimming and in Laos, he loves his home town, Luang Prabang, Plain of Jars and the northern border area’s ethnic peoples.
 
Sameuan Thammavong will be 45 in November, is married with two children and was born in Vientiane. One of our more experienced guides, he’s been leading tours since 1993 and has worked with Hanuman for the last four years. He was a printing engineer before that. He’d love to visit either the USA or Australia and his favourite sports are football and boxing.
 
Saylom Duangdusanh is 37 years old, was born in Vientiane and is married with two children. Before becoming a tour guide in 1999, he worked in the hotel industry. Australia would be first on his visiting list, he loves làap (salad of minced meat with lime and garlic) and milk and for sport, likes boxing and football.
 
Khamla Vilayphone is one of our youngest guides at 24 years old, hails from Luang Prabang and is married. He’s been a tour guide since 2002 and was a waiter before that. Papaya salad with fish is his favourite dish, badminton his preferred sport and England followed by the USA would be his countries of choice to visit.
 
Somchanh Phongsanith is 55 years old and took up guiding in 1998 after working as a teacher and translator. He’s married with five children and hails from Luang Prabang. Europe and Thailand are the foreign destinations he’d like to visit, with football and jogging his favourite sports, and coca cola his preferred drink.
 
Thonglien Sibounthien was a teacher before becoming a tour guide in 1994, is 35 years old, married with two children and was born in Xayaboury. He’d love to visit England, enjoys football in particular and his favourite meal-time combination is fish làap (salad of minced fish meat with lime and garlic) and beerlao.
