The
Angkor Safari Tent is unique to Hanuman Tourism,
a luxury tent modelled on the African Safari Tent
that will make more of Cambodia accessible to
more people, taking a new level of comfort and
service to the Kingdom's most remote corners.
Executive
Director Kulikar Sotho made a lengthy trip to
Uganda and Rwanda in 2002 and stayed in a number
of national parks with luxury-tented accommodation.
This gave her the inspiration to design the Angkor
Safari Tent, bringing the ancient temples and
stunning wilderness areas of Cambodia closer to
your clients without compromising their comfort.
In Africa, a safari throws up some of the most
incredible animals on the planet, in Cambodia
it takes you to the most atmospheric temple ruins
on earth, forgotten in the forests for almost
a millennia. No hotel? No obstacle with Hanuman,
as we take our luxury tents to the forgotten temples
of the north for a genuine Temple Safari through
Preah Vihear, Koh Ker and Preah Khan.
Fed
up with the bland bungalows of Sihanoukville?
With the Angkor Safari Tent, Hanuman can set up
luxury beach camps on the stunning islands of
Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samleon, perhaps the Ko
Samui and Ko Pha Ngan of Cambodia by 2020, or
take you into Ream National Park for a night as
a castaway. Fresh fish barbecues and a private
beach make this an experience no-one will want
to miss while in Cambodia.
Exploring
Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri in the remote north-east
of Cambodia or vast wilderness areas such as the
Cardamom Mountains has always been a challenge
due to a lack of comfortable accommodation, but
with the Angkor Safari Tent those days are over.
Anything is possible with a 4WD or boat and the
Angkor Safari Tent in tow.
The
tents are fully water-proofed, having undergone
extensive wet season testing over the past month.
They are pitched by our staff on a durable tarpaulin
and include two layers, the outer waterproof layer
set about 20cm above the inner layer. The inner
layer comes with complete mosquito and insect
protection and includes five meshed windows for
light and breeze during the day. The overall dimensions
of the tent are 3m wide x 4m long x 2.5m high.
Yes, you heard it right, 2.5m high offering standing
room throughout. Furnishings include custom-designed
camp beds 2m long by 1m wide with a foam mattress
and cotton bedding. There are small square tables
inside for suitcases or rucksacks and two chairs
and a table under the veranda awning for morning
tea and coffee and meals.
Having
experienced the best of African hospitality in
famous national parks such as Bwindi and Murchison
Falls, we know it is service that makes the difference
in these remote areas. The Angkor Safari Tent
comes equipped with additional toilet and shower
tents to ensure maximum privacy in the middle
of nowhere. The toilet and shower tents are identical,
1m square, 2.5m high, with a waterproof cover
and zipped door. The shower is the same as an
African bush shower, essentially a heavy-duty
bag that is filled with water and has a handle
to stop and start the flow. Our team boils up
a large pan of iodised water, mixes it with some
cold and voila, a hot shower in the jungle. The
toilet is a wooden box with a standard toilet
seat on top. When our team sets up camp, they
dig a small hole and put the toilet tent over
the top. When everything is packed away, it is
filled in again leaving no trace. Paper and sanitary
towels can go in a small waste bag.
We
also have the more budget-oriented Bokor Safari
Tent, modelled on a dome tent, which can be used
all over the country. This is a lot smaller than
the African Safari Tent, but is suitable for budget
travellers, student groups or conservationists
who want to explore the country in-depth.
Transport
to these remote areas is by 4WD Toyota Landcruiser
or Mitsuibishi Pajero, as road conditions do not
allow access for normal cars or minivans. These
vehicles can carry three pax in comfort, plus
a driver and guide who double as the tent team
on arrival at each site. All equipment is carried
on the roofrack under a tarpaulin and all luggage
is inside the vehicle in the rear with the guide.
Transport to the islands off the south coast is
by comfortable converted fishing boat. We include
all meals and source as many of the basic foodstuffs
as possible from local people in remote villages,
such as rice and vegetables, to ensure they have
a stake in tourism development in their community.
However, we carry our own meat and treats to assure
hygiene and comfort every step of the way. We
also carry a major water supply, both for drinking
and bathing.
There
is nothing quite like the Angkor Safari Tent in
the Indochina region. For pioneering trips to
the world's most incredible temples or the some
of Asia's remotest regions, no-one provides the
service and comfort of Hanuman Tourism. Imagine
waking up for sunrise on the summit of the Dangrek
Mountains, the shafts of first light casting over
the majestic mountain temple of Preah Vihear.
Imagine your own private beach on the incredible
tropical islands off the coast of Cambodia, and
you don't have to be a film star to afford it.
Imagine a journey down the remote rivers of Cambodia's
north-east, camping on sandbanks in some of the
wildest areas on earth. With Hanuman Tourism,
imagination becomes reality and you can experience
these incredible highs before the rest of the
world wakes up to them.
Cambodia
just got smaller thanks to the Angkor Safari Tent
and the options for your adventures in the kingdom
just got a whole lot bigger. Contact us today
to arrange your journey of a lifetime.
